Paid for by Gruber for Cedar Falls Schools Board -  copyright 2019

I’m Nate Gruber and I’m asking for your vote in the upcoming school board election.

I’m running for the Cedar Falls School Board because I believe in the mission of public education and that the Cedar Falls School District is one of our community’s strongest assets.

I first moved to Cedar Falls to attend UNI after graduating from Shenandoah High School in 1999. I graduated from UNI in 2004, majoring in Economics & Finance and returned to UNI in 2008 to pursue a social science teaching degree. After living in Dubuque for ten years, my wife Anne Marie and I made the decision to return to Cedar Falls when she was offered a position on the faculty at UNI. I returned to UNI a few years ago to work toward a Masters of Public Policy.

Anne Marie and I have two children, Amelia, a 2nd grader at Orchard Hill Elementary, and Owen who is 18 months.

As a substitute teacher in the Cedar Falls and Waterloo School districts I have a somewhat unique view into the issues in our buildings. As a school board member I will use my voice for students, teachers & staff, and the community, and will advocate for policies that help teachers teach and students succeed.

I received an excellent education in my hometown public school and later at UNI, both of which have served me well and led me to a position where I can help others achieve their goals. I believe my training and experience in the insurance and banking industries, in public policy and education, and in the classroom, make me an effective advocate for our students, our schools, and our community. I hope you’ll give me the chance to do that as a member of the Cedar Falls School Board by voting Gruber on November 5th.

High quality public education is at the core of who we are as Iowans, and the key to the future for our community, our state, and our nation.

As a member of the Cedar Falls School Board I will advocate for

Our Students:

  • Continue and strengthen innovative student success programs such as CAPS at the High School and ECHOES in the Junior High Schools.

  • Support policies which maintain reasonable class sizes so students can make the most of the time they have with teachers.

  • Emphasize Arts, Humanities, and Social Science programs alongside Math and Science programs so students graduate as highly skilled, adaptable problem-solvers who are the innovative leaders of tomorrow.

Our Teachers & Staff:

  • Ensure that teachers & staff are treated fairly, with respect and as professionals.

  • Appropriately compensate teachers & staff to reflect training, expertise, level of responsibility, and workplace environment.

  • Support district-level policies that encourage current teachers & staff to remain with the district as well as attract high-quality applicants to join us

Our Community:

  • Provide oversight and transparency throughout the planning and construction of our new high school.

  • Advocate for long-term planning strategies that ensure our facilities are well maintained and updated adequately and responsibly.

  • Maintain and recognize the importance of existing relationships with parent-teacher organizations in the district.

  • Work with our state legislators on education and funding issues that affect Cedar Falls Schools.

Let's talk!
